Roger Lee Blackshire, age 82, of Hopkinsville passed away February 8, 2021, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 12, 2021 at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kentucky Veteran Cemetery West. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home from 9:30 AM until the service hour at 10:00 AM Friday, February 12, 2021. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Blackshire was born November 29, 1938 in Stumptown, WV, the son of the late Earl H. and Helen Bush Blackshire. Roger was a Retired United States Army Major. He was a postman in Fayetteville, WV. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Frances Ellen Clemens Blackshire in 2017; and his brother Earl Blackshire, Jr.
Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Ellen Ashwell and her husband, Jeffrey of Fayetteville, WV, Tracy Ann Leak and her husband, Andy of St. Clair, MO, and Tonya Lee Sawyers and her husband, Albert of Floyd, VA; his brothers, Benny Blackshire and his wife Janet of Florida, Doug Blackshire and his wife Sherry of Cincinnati, OH; his sisters, Jeannette Childers of Princeton, WV, Betty Jo Croson and her husband Stoney of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren, Annamarie Austin Leak, Joseph Andrew Otis Leak, Jenna Renee Sawyers, and baby Sawyers due in April.
