Nancy Lou Roper Smith, age 79, of Pembroke, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at St. Thomas Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN, after a long illness. Memorial Services will be at 4:00 PM, Monday, December 2, 2019 at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Rev. Janet Carden officiating with burial to be at a later day in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Clarksville, TN on May 7, 1940, the daughter of the late Emmett Allan and Hortense Moss Roper. Nancy was a retired school teacher for over 27 years for Christian County Public Schools. She was a graduate of George Peabody College for Teachers Vanderbilt University. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Kathleen Roper Sanders.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, David C. Smith of Pembroke; her daughter, Cathrine Smith Gordon and her husband Donald of Murfreesboro, TN; her grandchildren, Robert David Gordon, Ainsley Elizabeth Gordon and Maura Colleen Gordon; her brother, E.A. “Al” Roper III of Guthrie.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions, can be made in her honor to Max Hope’s Rescue Mission at 710 North Main Street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
