Known as Lawrence to some, and Larry to others, Steve was born in Ft. Campbell, KY, on January 28, 1956, the son of Henry Lawrence and the late Marie Kirkman Stagner. An accomplished carpenter, Steve built or remodeled numerous houses in and around Hopkinsville for years. He also worked at Emhart POP Fastener, and recently at Metalsa. At the age of 16, Steve surrendered to the ministry, and has preached diligently ever since pastoring churches in Russellville and Burna, KY. Steve most recently planted Emmaus Independent Baptist Mission in downtown Hopkinsville. Steve enjoyed wood working, competitive shooting, grilling, and reading. Above all, Poppa, as he was affectionately known, loved spending time with and taking care of his family, friends, and co-workers.

His Legacy lives on with his wife of 43 years, Sheila Phipps Stagner of Hopkinsville; his father Henry Lawrence Stagner and his wife Sue of Honey Grove; his son, Jason Steven Stagner and his wife Melissa of Hopkinsville; his daughters, Mandy Stagner Guffey and her husband Russ of Hopkinsville, and Lindsay Stagner Bardwell and her husband Bradley of Hopkinsville; his brother, Bruce Stagner and his wife Kelly of Hopkinsville; his step-brother, Kevin Delawson and his wife Jenny of Honey Grove; his sisters, Debbie Hammond of Collierville, TN, and Hope Campbell and her husband Michael of Hopkinsville; and nine grandchildren, Chaney, Laiken, Adler, Cannon, Jase, Carter, Brooks, Beau, and Brady.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Wounded Warriors, or Grace and Mercy.
