Mr. Hendrix was born February 7, 1932 up the Good Road near Rayville, Louisiana, the son of the late Carl Hendrix and Zelra Aulds Hendrix. At the age of 16, Shorty enlisted in the Army and was sent to Japan where he served as a nurse. Upon his return and assignment to Fort Smith he met Juanita and after their six-week courtship they married on August 24, 1952. After 26 years of service in the Army, Shorty retired and began farming with friends from church. To Shorty, his faith was the center of his life and serving was a way of life. Whether at home or at church, he served everyone in every way. He and his sweet wife welcomed countless families into their home, feeding them, loving them, and investing in them as he allowed the love of Christ to shape his life. Mamps, as he was known by his grandchildren, was impartial to all, always full of jokes, loving, caring, and taught each one valuable life lessons. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers: Slick, Doc, Doyle, and Billy; and his sisters: Lorece Johnson, Emma Grey Hallman, and Ann Weeks.
He is survived by “his first wife”, Juanita Hendrix, to whom he was married for nearly 70 years. His love, faith and commitment lives on in the legacy he leaves with his brother; Scotty Hendrix; and his children: Debra Taylor (Ron), Pam Brown, Ken Hendrix (Kelly); his grandchildren: Brandon (Megan), Kristen (Kevin), Kimberly, Jesse (Lauren), Cody, Zachary (Angie), Hannah, Kyle (Cristal), Kaleb; and his great-grandchildren: Chris, Isabella, Cameron, Carter, Avery, Anneliese , Bud (Lucien), Libby, Grace, Banjo (Riley), Evan, Cordelia, Jotham, Adaline, Isaiah, Sophia, Josie, Jaxson, Isaac, and Emery.
