James Russell, age 82, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with David Spears officiating and burial to follow in Tabernacle Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Monday, December 6, 2021, from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Russell was born in Christian County, KY, on June 20, 1939, the son of the late James and Clara Bill Jones Russell. He was a retired custodian of 26 years for the Christian County School System. He worked 15 years cleaning laundry matts. During the 50’s and 60’s was highly involved with local and national harness racing. In 1975 he was involved in an electrical accident, where he was the only survivor. James enjoyed fishing, driving around town. He loved going to Kroger’s and spending the mornings talking with his friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Lorene “Grandma” Wilson and Patricia Russell.
Survivors include sister, Roberta Soloman of Hopkinsville, his nephews, Otis Wilson, Jr and his wife Sharon of Hopkinsville, James “ Pokie” Wilson and his wife Melany on Hopkinsville, James Ray Soloman of Kentucky, Marvin Wilson of Ohio, and Sammie Wilson of Ohio; and several great nieces and nephews.
