James “Jimmy” Mathis, age 84, of Herndon, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at his home of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 PM Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with John Young and Don Mathis officiating and burial to follow in Flatlick Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Mathis was born in Christian County, KY, on February 7, 1937, the son of the late Caleb Alvin Mathis, Sr. and Beatrice Miles Mathis. He served in the United States National Guard and was a farmer and truck driver for many years. Jimmy was a member of Little River Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Waldrop Mathis in 1999; his two sons, Dale Mathis, Sr. in 2019, James “Jimbo” Mathis in 1969; his two brothers, C.A. Mathis, Jr., Walter Mathis, Sr.; and his two sisters, Margie Henderson and Denna Brown.
Survivors include his son, Terry Mathis and his wife Barbara of Hopkinsville; his two daughters, Ann Smith and her husband Bruce of Lafayette, Gail Gee and her husband Lawrence of Lafayette; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Mathis of Herndon; his brother, Don Mathis and his wife Sharon of Bowling Green; his sister, Sherry Brege and her husband Jim of Atlanta, GA; his eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Pennyroyal Hospice at 220 Burley Avenue Hopkinsville, KY, 42240.
