Helen “Marie” Gilkey, age 90, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at her residence of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Dr. Melvin Felts officiating and burial to follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 11:00 AM until the service hour at 1:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mrs. Gilkey was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on December 10, 1931, the daughter of the late George Washington Cook and Jennie Lynn Cook. She was co-owner of Crofton IGA for 30 years. Mrs. Gilkey was a former Sunday school teacher at Crofton Baptist Church, Kelly Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. She also was a part of the preschool department and provided support for many different areas. She was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ewing Adrian Gilkey; a grandson, Lee King; her brothers, Robert L. “Sonny” Cook, William E. Cook, Bobby Dean Cook, George Cook, JR.; and her sisters, Lucille Molenda, Dorothy Gray, Laura Drenas, and Mildred Dark.
Survivors include her son, Tim Gilkey, and his wife, Penny of Crofton; her daughter, Tammy Gilkey Hester, and her husband, Mark of Hopkinsville; two grandsons, Brent Gilkey and his wife, Julie of Hopkinsville, Brandon Reynolds and his fiancé, Payton of Clarksville, TN; and a great grandson, Bennett Reynolds.
