Frank Leonard Pennington, Jr., age 87, of Talbert Drive in Hopkinsville, KY, passed away at 4:30 PM on Monday, December 3, 2018, at his home of natural causes. Services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Rev. John Birchett officiating and burial with full military honors to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 6, 2018, and from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pennington was born in Fries, VA, on January 25, 1931, to the late Frank L. Pennington, Sr. and Ida Vesta Pennington. He was a retired Army Sergeant Major and Department of the Army Civilian Employee. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a Combat Infantryman and Master Parachutist and Recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal with numerous other army decorations. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of the Elks Lodge. His wife, Maxine Yates Pennington, one son, Andrew C. Baker, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two brothers, Clifton Pennington of Keeling, VA, and Ned Pennington of Galax, VA; one sister Wilma Sarvin of Galax, VA; three grandchildren, Andrea D-L Hemp, Alexis Rodriguez, Autumn Baker; and three great grandchildren, Alexandra Sisk, Kiemoni L Hemp, Anthony C-L Hemp.
