Frances Brown Almy, age 87, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at her home of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mrs. Almy was born in Overton County, TN, on April 1, 1934, the daughter of the late Cordell Hull and Emma Brown. She was a professional secretary and bookkeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was also in the BPW Club, Lions Club, Literacy Council, Community Reader, and volunteered at the Salvation Army. Frances was a member of the Singing Witnesses Quartet, and she was a part of every church choir that she attended. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frazia McDonald.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Herbert Hoover Almy of Hopkinsville; her daughters, Shahri Smithson and her husband John of Hopkinsville, Lori Thomas of Hopkinsville, and Kristi Calvert and her husband John of Fountain Inn, SC; her brothers, Manuel Brown and his wife Charlotte of Cadiz, Paul Brown and his wife Mava of Cadiz, Howard Brown and his wife Louise of Owensboro, and Dwight Brown and his wife Pam of Gracey; her sister, Minnie Greil of Burlington, WI; and seven grandchildren, Kyle Smithson, Mallory Smithson, KaLeigh Thomas, MaKenzee Thomas, Nate Calvert, Noah Calvert, and Jacob Calvert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made in her memory to First Baptist Church at 1400 South Main Street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
