Evelyn Mayes

Evelyn J. Mayes, age 100, of Hopkinsville, passed away at 5:30 AM Sunday, June 30, 2019, at the Christian Health Center of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Second Baptist Church with Rev. David Tucker and Rev. Larry Wilson officiating and burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 3 2019, at Second Baptist Church, Hopkinsville. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton is in charge of the arrangements.   

Mrs. Mayes was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on August 14, 1918, the daughter of late Byron and Irene Major Jones. She ran two service stations for over 35 years with her husband, then after his passing, she worked Keach Furniture Company, Moelight, and Jennie Stuart Medical Center payroll department until her retirement in 1987. She was the oldest living member of Second Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of Golden Sunshine at Second Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. She was preceded in death by her husband, William David Mayes in 1967.

She is survived by her son, David William Mayes, of Hopkinsville, KY.
