Douglas L. Carpenter, age 79, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at his home of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Rev. Graham Harvey officiating and burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West with full military honors. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Friday, September 10, 2021, from 10:00 AM until the service hour at 12:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Carpenter was born in West Hope, North Dakota on January 3, 1942, the son of the late Floyd and Millie Carpenter. He was a veteran in the US Airforce and served in the Vietnam War as an E4, Airman 1st Class. After his Airforce career he went on to work many jobs and then for Metcalfe Florist in Hopkinsville where he retired. Douglas was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the Lions Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Carpenter and his grandson, Mac Carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sandy Partain Carpenter of Hopkinsville, KY; his sons, Michael Carpenter and his wife Amy of Birmingham, AL, and Kody Carpenter and his wife Beth of Kalamazoo, MI; his daughters, Lisa Rice and her husband Gary of Tarpon Springs, FL and Casey Jo Finchum of Hopkinsville, KY; his brothers, Ray Carpenter of New Richmond, WI; and his sister, Myrna Rakstad of Mt. Charleston, NV; six grandchildren, Brittany Morley, Kristy Gruner, Matt Ledford, Quinsy Carpenter, Tristen Finchum, Mallie Carpenter; and four great grandchildren, Elijah Morley, Teagan Gruner, Lexie Gruner, and Logan Gruner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Lions Club.
