Bertha Justice Curry, age 101, of Millers Mill Road, Oak Grove, passed away at 1:01 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Christian Health Center of natural causes. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 8, 2018, with Rev. Jimmy Stewart officiating and burial to follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Pembroke. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Curry was born in Puritan Mines, West Virginia, on January 29, 1917, to the late James Melvin and Betsy Ann Curry Justice. She was a Post Master and Teacher for Logan County Schools and West Virginia Schools. Bertha was the oldest member of Salem Baptist Church; she was also a member of St. Elmo homemakers and Marshall University Alumni. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Elva E. Curry; her brothers, Henry, John B., Elva, Smith, and Jessie Justice; her sisters, Brookie Farley, Gladys Honeycutt, Effie Murphy, Florence Toms, Marie Ferrell, and Lillie Wood.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald Lee Curry of Princeville, HI and James Melvin Curry of Glenn Saint Mary, FL; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
