Augusta “Gustie” Mae Joiner Compton, age 80, of Hopkinsville passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Shady Lawn Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Maddux Fuqua Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with burial to follow in Flatlick Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux Fuqua Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mrs. Compton was born in Pembroke, KY, on August 22, 1942, the daughter of the late Roy Augustus Joiner and Senora Anona Turner Joiner. Augusta was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. “Charlie” Compton, Sr. in 2017; her daughters, Susan Denise Phipps, Jennifer James; her brother, Gene Joiner, James Joiner, Doris Joiner, Marvin Joiner, Ray Joiner; and her sisters, Molly Grace Whitaker, Judy Grady, and Sarah Brake.
Survivors include her sons, William Anthony “Tony” Long, of Hopkinsville, Michael Wayne “Mike” Long, of Oro Valley, AZ, Christopher Bruce “Chris” Long and his wife Candice, of Clarksville, TN, Nathan Long of Hopkinsville; her daughters, Linda Gayle of Clarksville, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Mathis and her husband Billy of Hopkinsville, KY, Lisa Ann Ray and her husband David of Nashville, TN; her stepsons, Charles “Ricky” Compton, of Gracey, KY, William “Mike” Compton, of Clarksville, TN, Joe Compton, of Clarksville, TN; her brother, Dee Joiner and his wife Linda of Pembroke, KY; her sister, Alice Faye Hancock of Hopkinsville, KY; 22 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
