Ret. Lt. Col. Hoge Milton Greene of Stafford, VA, formerly of Hopkinsville, KY, age 75, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017, at his home of complications from his long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Taylor officiating, with interment to follow at 11:00 AM at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West, with full military honors.

   Mr. Greene was born on March 3, 1942, in Pocahontas, Virginia, to Alpha Everette, Jr. and Jean Merle Wagner Greene. Hoge joined the US Army at age eighteen. He was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, and he served in Vietnam (1963-1964) with the 2nd Plt, 117th Assault Helicopter Company (The Pink Panthers). He supported Operation Power Pack as a member of the 82nd Airborne and served in the Dominican Republic. He went on to flight school and became a helicopter pilot in the 278th ACR, Tennessee Army National Guard. He retired from civil service in 2004 as the Operations Officer for The Army Environmental Policy Institute in Arlington, Virginia.

   While stationed at Fort Campbell, Hoge met his wife, Gustie Lois Lancaster and in 1963 they married. They were married for 53 years until Gustie’s death in February 2016. Survivors include his son, Christopher Everette Greene and his wife, Jessica, of Stafford, VA; his brothers, John and Steve Greene of California; his sister, Jane Arthur of Maryland; and his grandchildren, Erin Katlyn Greene, Elizabeth Anne Greene and Owen Henry Everette Greene. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by wife Gustie Lois Lancaster Greene.

Hoge was a member of Christian Heights United Methodist Church. He was also active in Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s at the YMCA, and he never wanted to miss class. He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Crew Member Association and the 117TH Assault Helicopter Company Vietnam Association.
